Less planning, more romance… am I right?
1. Estes Park

Think of Estes Park as the ideal Rocky Mountain basecamp for a couple’s retreat. You’ll be perched right at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, where you can spend your days hiking and spotting wildlife such as moose, elk, and bighorn sheep!
When you’re not out hiking, there are plenty of adorable walking streets to wander through, full of antique shops and cafes. Our favorite spot to eat here was Bird & Jim, famous for their Frontier Trout and other locally sourced dishes.
We loved our stay at The Romantic Riversong Inn. This homely bed and breakfast sits on 26 secluded acres. Be sure to book a room with a fireplace! It’s the ideal place to curl up with a hot cocoa after a day in the mountains. But honestly, the breakfast was what won us over!

2. Ouray

They don’t call Ouray the “Switzerland of America” for nothing! Surrounded by the jagged San Juan Mountains, this picturesque town offers breathtaking views and a variety of romantic things to do. Cruise down the Million Dollar Highway, soak in natural hot springs, hike the Perimeter Trail, go horseback riding, or enjoy a picnic in Yankee Boy Basin. Do any of these things, and you’re sure to have a blast!
For your stay, book a room at the Hot Springs Inn for a tranquil retreat right along the river. You can enjoy gorgeous views from your balcony, and it’s just a short, scenic walk into the historic downtown. After a day of adventure, wander through the charming streets to browse local shops, art galleries, and enjoy an intimate dinner at one of the cozy bistros. In Ouray, it’s easy to feel right at home.
3. Colorado Springs

Where natural wonder meets historic whimsy, Colorado Springs is THE epic backdrop to your love affair. While not a traditional “mountain town,” its proximity to the mountains and diverse landscape make it a contender in our book.
Hike among incredible red rock formations in Garden of the Gods and explore the underground caverns at Cave of the Winds. And when it’s time to chill out, visit SunWater Spa for a private mineral water soak with amazing views of Pikes Peak. Oohlala!
Make your stay special at the Holden House 1902 Bed & Breakfast Inn. This beautiful Victorian home offers suites with cozy fireplaces and spacious tubs for two. You’ll love being just a short walk from the unique shops and galleries of Old Colorado City, and the gourmet breakfast and afternoon wine social make quality time all the more special.

4. Crested Butte

Crested Butte is a dream destination with its pedestrian-friendly streets, fantastic restaurants, and glorious mountain scenery. Known as the Wildflower Capital of Colorado, it’s best to visit in spring or fall, when you can hike or bike through vibrant wildflower meadows. But with skiing in winter, there’s fun to be had all year long.
For pre-hike fuel or post-adventure celebrations, Crested Butte is a food-lover’s paradise. Try Secret Stash Pizzeria, The Sunflower, and Tin Cup for homemade ice cream! But the one place you definitely don’t want to miss is Dogwood Cocktail. Their craft drinks are sooo tasty!
When it comes to accommodations, book a stay at one of the Pioneer Guest Cabins. They’re burrowed right within the Gunnison National Forest, with a babbling creek running through the property. Imagine total peace and quiet, with trails literally right outside your cabin. It’s also just a quick, scenic drive to all the cool stuff on Elk Avenue downtown.
5. Telluride

Craving that full-throttle ski resort experience without all the crowds? Telluride is your answer. Tucked away in a dramatic box canyon, this quaint little town serves up world-class skiing in winter, epic hikes and music festivals in summer, all with a dash of old Victorian flair. A visit here isn’t complete without a free gondola ride into the historic downtown. It’s seriously like something out of a storybook.
For everything in one pretty package, The Peaks Resort & Spa is the ultimate romantic slope-side experience. You can ski right from the resort, then unwind together in the largest spa in Colorado. For a special evening, ask the concierge to arrange a private snowshoe tour or an intimate sleigh ride for two. Talk about magical! If you appreciate a more remote and intimate setting, then you’ll love Telluride.

Just 45 minutes from Denver, this sleepy town is your perfect escape into the mountains. Spend your days hiking scenic trails in the Mount Evans Wilderness, then cozy up in a rustic cabin for some of the best stargazing around.
