1. St. Augustine

St. Augustine is located in north Florida on the east coast side and is the perfect place for a couples’ trip. It is most well-known for its Spanish-style architecture and is the oldest city in the United States. It’s the perfect spot for couples to enjoy a romantic vacation exploring the beautiful sandy beaches, like St. Augustine Beach, and immerse themselves in the city’s rich history, fine dining, and the Atlantic Ocean.

The historic district is quite enchanting, filled with quaint shops and delicious food all along St. George Street. It’s also home to the claimed fountain of youth, the oldest schoolhouse, and other fun tourist attractions like museums and the Castillo de San Marcos, known as the oldest masonry fort in the US. 3. Miami

If you want more of the big city vibe—Miami is the place to go. You’ll find tons to do while also having access to Miami Beach and other fun water activities. Explore Coral Castle Museum, book a couple’s massage, or explore all the city has to offer, from shopping to restaurants and more! You’ll have easy access to beaches, luxurious hotels, and so much more. Check out a winery, or take a short drive to West Palm Beach or Key Largo! 4. St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is a city on Florida’s west coast, situated right near Tampa. Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg, Florida, are home to some of the most pristine beaches in the world. You have to check out St. Pete Beach, Clearwater, Treasure Island, and more! The sands are stunningly white, and the ocean is a brilliant blue-green with incredibly calm waters. It’s like taking a bath in paradise! 

Be sure to check out downtown St. Pete. It is alive with personality and an array of enchanting shops and restaurants. If you were hoping to visit some theme parks, make the 30-minute drive into Tampa to check out Busch Gardens and the Tampa Bay Zoo while you’re in the area. Before you head out, make a pit stop at Vinoy Park in St. Pete for a chance to see a dolphin or two! If you want to treat yourselves, consider staying at the Don Cesar for the ultimate romantic St.Petersburg experience.

Bonus: Take a day trip to one of the nearby springs, like Weeki Wachee or Silver Springs State Park! At the former, you can kayak and swim with the manatees. At the latter, you’ll get the chance to see some monkeys!

5. Sanibel Island

Although hit hard by Hurricane Ian in September 2022, Sanibel Island is still one of the best places for a perfect romantic getaway spot. Located in South Florida, it’s a gorgeous island set apart from the rest of Florida. Book a stay in a luxury hotel or beach house and enjoy access to sandy beaches and charming shops. Sanibel is a great spot to book a romantic sunset cruise, bike along its many trails, or enjoy a scoop of ice cream at one of its local shops. You could even spend the whole day on the beach hunting for seashells. For more adventurous couples, there are plenty of water sports. Sanibel has it all and is a must-visit if you’re in Florida.

When is the best time to visit Florida?

If you want to avoid the tourist crowds and save some money, late September is your best bet! It’s still warm enough to enjoy the beaches and outdoor activities but without having to battle the hordes of other tourists.

Plus, there are usually plenty of great deals on flights and hotels during this time of year. If you want to go during the warmer months, April-May is also a great time to visit. You’ll still get some sunshine and avoid the peak-season crowds!
