There are numerous beautiful parks in Charleston, but we’ve hand-picked our top 4 favorites that feel as if they were designed specifically for couples to escape to — plus some travel tips if it’s your first time visiting! So pack a picnic basket, grab your partner’s hand, and get ready to explore these stunning parks together!

Kiawah Beachwalker Park

Kiawah Beachwalker Park is the perfect couples trip to SC parks for those who want to enjoy a low-key beach that offers a romantic stroll along the water with some great viewing experiences. While it is a public beach, it typically has fewer crowds than the other beaches in the area, which means you’ll get to have a little more quiet time together.

The park sits on the west end of Kiawah Island and has 10 miles of beautiful, pristine waters and a shandy shore for you to enjoy. And guess what? You won’t have any issues finding a spot on the beach away from the crowds! Bonus points if you catch a glimpse of some dolphins during low tide.

Kiawah also has a boardwalk that takes you around and through a forest filled with greenery, oaks, pines, and other beautiful nature scenes. You can even sit back and have a quiet picnic together as you overlook the marsh. It’s honestly one of the most romantic things to do in Charleston!

Insider tip: Have a romantic dinner at Mingo Point Oyster Roast and BBQ. You have to try the oysters and sit on the outdoor patio looking over the scenic marsh. It’s pure magic!

Melton Peter Demetre Park

On James Island, you’ll find Melton Peter Demetre Park, which offers some of the most beautiful scenic views Charleston has to offer. Sitting along the water, many locals refer to the park as “Sunrise Park” because of its beauty as the sun rises.

You and your love can enjoy a small hiking trail that goes through the park, go fishing on the pier, hunt for fossil shark teeth, or have a romantic picnic as you enjoy views of the harbor and historic downtown Charleston. 

Many locals also like to kayak in this area as the water is calm and peaceful. It’s a great way to spend some time together on the water and enjoy a nature-filled date with your partner.

Insider tip: We recommend wearing shoes on the beach at low-tide, as there are lots of oyster shells that can be sharp or slippery!

Food You’ve Got to Try in Charleston

  • Shrimp and grits: This iconic dish is a blend of African and Native American flavors with a southern twist. Creamy grits are topped with juicy shrimp cooked in a savory sauce made from bacon, broth, and spices.
  • She-crab soup: Another staple of Charleston cuisine, this rich and creamy soup is made with lump crab meat, heavy cream, and a splash of sherry. It’s perfect for cooler evenings or as a starter to any meal.

Folly Beach County Park

Folly Beach County Park is another great couples trip to SC parks. It sits along the Folly River and the Atlantic Ocean, giving you river and ocean views. Beach lovers can sit along the beach soaking up the sun or rent boogie boards for some outdoor adventure in the water. Grab a snack at the seasonal snack bar and enjoy the beautiful sunset as you walk along the edge of the water.

One interesting thing to visit while at the park is the Wishing Tree. It’s a few miles away but it’s often a popular destination for many for weddings, Valentine’s Day, or romantic gestures because of its sunset view and lucky tree. Those who want to make a wish can leave shells. You can even make a shell necklace or create a string of hearts to leave on the tree. Super cute!

If you’re feeling really adventurous, Folly Beach is one of the best places to do some stargazing off the coast of Carolina. Plan a trip on a clear night to see glimpses of the Milky Way! It’s a hidden gem and the perfect place to cuddle up together under the stars.

Insider tip: There is a $10 entrance fee to access this beach, but this covers parking, clean restrooms, an outdoor shower for washing off the sand, and a changing room. 

Waterfront Park

Looking over the Charleston Harbor and the Cooper River, Charleston Waterfront Park is a romantic park that offers natural beauty, scenic walking paths, tall palmetto trees, a pier, and water views for miles. You and your partner can relax on the swings, visit the iconic Pineapple Fountain, or sit on the pier and catch sights of boats, dolphins, and even the occasional pelican.

During your relaxing visit, we also recommend taking a stroll through the park as you enjoy breathtaking views of the harbor and admire beautiful gardens and shady oak trees. These are perfect spots for setting up a picnic together or sitting down on one of the benches to people watch. 

As the sun sets, Waterfront Park becomes even more romantic. Make sure to grab a spot on one of the swings or benches and watch as the sky turns orange and pink over the water. It’s truly a magical experience that you and your partner won’t want to miss!

Insider tip: Take a ride on the water taxi from Mount Pleasant for a unique and scenic way to get to the park. You can also stop at Patriots Point, where you can tour a WWII aircraft carrier and submarine. 

Honorable mention: West Ashley Greenway is a popular multi-use trail that stretches about 8 miles and offers a scenic route for walking, running, biking, or even horseback riding!

The greenway begins at the intersection of Main Road and Folly Road on Johns Island and continues all the way to its endpoint at Arlington Road in West Ashley. Along the way, you and your partner can gaze upon beautiful marshlands, forests, and residential neighborhoods.
